The road trip to your event can also become a time where faith is passed on. Arrange which teens will be with which parent/driver. Most teens hate assigned seating but push them a bit on this. Try to divide up the "safe" groups. Encourage the parent/driver to use this time to get to know the teens better and to share at least one personal faith story on that drive. If you stop at a halfway point, rearrange the seating again. Also use this icebreaker game to bond the vehicle groups. This is a favorite of ours.

This idea can be passed out to your families to do at home during Holy Week or you can work it into your Holy Week Lock-in. A kitchen and an overnight time is required.

One of my son’s favorite books is “The Giving Tree” by Shel Silverstien. If you have never read it, I highly recommend it. It’s the story of a little boy and a tree that loved each other very much. They would play together, spend time together and enjoy each other’s company. The boy would climb the tree’s trunk, swing on her branches, eat her apples and sit in her shade.

We are working on recovering the data for this page and should be back online in a few days. Welcome to the Retreats/Lock-Ins Resource. These are a vital part of youth ministry and with some creative tweaking parents can become a part of them. Not as food providers and chaperones (but that extra help is welcomed) but also as another time for both to have faith experiences together. What are your ideas?
